The National Warplane Museum is hosting a Family-Friendly
one-day event on Saturday May 17 10am-3pm to engage children ages 4-14 in all
forms of general aviation, showcase the Museum collection and demonstrate the
Four Elements of Flight: Weight, Lift, Drag and Thrust.
Several STEAM
(science, technology, engineering, art and math) stations will be
organized with hands-on crafts, activities and demonstrations:

Paint photo backdrops like life-sized
paint-by-numbers projects. Participating artists will be encouraged to sign
their names on the back. These backdrops will be displayed at Hemlock Fair and
the 2025 Greatest Show on Turf Geneseo Airshow.

Make, decorate and launch a parachuter with a
coffee filter, string and a pipe-cleaner
·
Create a single or bi-wing airplane chip clip
from a clothes pin, popsicle sticks and decorations.
·
Finger-paint a paper plate world and add an
airplane/rocket sticker
·
Conduct a balloon rocket and measure it’s flight
distance.
·
Hear the music of Genesee Valley Children’s
Choir as they conclude the event performing selections related to flying.
·
Participate in the paper airplane contest
coached by MOOG volunteers.
·
Cheer along with SPIKES, the Rochester Red Wings
Baseball Mascot during his appearance with give-aways
·
Create a Thank You card for Livingston County
Veterans in Long-term care; supervised table with markers, glitter, paper
cut-outs, envelopes, stickers and glue.
During the event, a Flying Object of some type will be
announced as it approaches the Museum airstrip, lands, taxis and parks. Pilots
will greet visitors and explain more about their aircraft.
Balloons over Letchworth will display and demo their
REMAX Hot Air Balloon and basket.
Finger Lakes Soaring Club will bring in a glider for a
static display as well as fly in a glider with a tow plane.
Rochester Flyers will bring a static hang-glider and a
para-glider for display, and motorized para-glider for demos.
The National Guard will man a static state-of-the-art
military helicopter (Black Hawk or Chinook).
The Monroe Astronautical Rocket Club (MARS) will be
launching.
NY Free Flight Club
will test flying model airplanes.
Lunar Launcher/Lander display
BBQ Food Truck and Ice Cream Truck
The Museum will be open for tours 10am-3pm. Fly-ins and
outdoor displays weather-permitting.
Registration is required and limited to 250.
FLYING OBJECTS admission is Free: Donations are appreciated!
No dogs allowed.
